Sandvine Introduces First Service Control Platform For Tier-1 Mobile Operators

Platform Enhances Quality of Experience and Offers Subscribers New Mobile Usage Options

CTIA Wireless – LAS VEGAS, NV- March 31, 2008 – Sandvine, (TSX:SVC; AIM:SAND) a leading provider of intelligent broadband network solutions for DSL, cable, FTTx, fixed wireless and mobile operators, today introduced the first service control platform to address the needs of the world’s largest tier-1 mobile operators, with high subscriber counts, wireless specific protocols and subscriber mobility.

Designed to enhance overall subscriber quality of experience, the PTS 14700 enables visibility into subscriber data trends and consumption and opens the door to new customized services such as quota management, value-based billing, advice-of-charge, and content zones that facilitate and encourage more mobile data usage.

With the capacity to manage 5 million subscribers on a single platform and seamlessly cluster for even higher performance, the PTS 14700 is a carrier-class solution.  Its flexible deployment architecture enables the consolidation of a broad range of policy solutions including: advanced usage-based services, advice-of-charge notices prior to usage, automatic network protection from DoS attacks, spam Trojans and other malicious activity, and business intelligence among many others.

Other Platform Highlights

  • Carrier-grade reliability including cost-effective n: n+1 redundancy;
  • Centralized policy management including advanced GUI configuration;
  • Support for data link building blocks of 1, 4, 6, and 10 GE;
  • Protocol support for wireless networks including IP in IP, GRE, VLAN, MPLS, L2TP and GTP tunnels; and,
  • Integrates with standards-based (IMS, TISPAN) and pre-standard architectures.

As operators continue to invest heavily in 3G / 3.5G and WiMAX rollouts, they are also refining traditional service plans to attract new subscribers and encourage more mobile data usage. Flat-rate data plans are being augmented with value-based billing, application-based services and comprehensive subscriber communications enabling subscribers to make informed usage decisions and understand data charges whether downloading ring tones or uploading photos to a social networking site via their handheld devices. Delivering new personalized services with reliable quality to millions, and even tens of millions of subscribers, in a scalable, cost-effective manner has become paramount to operator profitability and customer loyalty.

“For the first time, mobile operators have visibility into specific types of data traffic flowing over their network.  With this information, they can then apply a variety of policy decisions to deliver more personalized services to subscribers,” said Don Bowman, Sandvine Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer.  “Operators can also leverage this information to fairly allocate network resources, communicate with subscribers, promote usage and enhance subscriber quality of experience.”
